City Tour and the Blue Lagoon
|
After breakfast meet you guide in reception for a 3 hour city tour of Reykjavik. The tour includes the world's oldest parliament, the unique Hallgrinskirkjs church and a lake in the centre of the city, which is inhabited with an array of wildlife. During your excursion you will visit modern suburbs where you will be able to see the striking contrast of the city's modern architecture against its older, more traditional colourful houses. After the tour you have free time which can be spent sightseeing, shopping or relaxing.
Around 18:00hrs you will depart from the hotel on an excursion to the Blue Lagoon, driving over rough lava fields on the way. Make sure you take bathing suits as you can enjoy a dip in the Lagoon’s renowned geothermal water, which is believed to have healing powers due to it being rich in minerals. Day 3 -
Northern Lights Safari
|
Today you will go on a tour of Iceland's scenic highlights; you will be driven south by your guide who will take you through rich and fertile lowlands to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls. The excursion then continues past magnificent geysers to the breathtaking Pingvellir National Park, where the world’s oldest parliament was founded in 930 AD.
In the evening you will go on a Super Jeep safari, which will take you off the beaten track in search of the Northern Lights. Iceland is one of the best locations in the world for seeing the Aurora Borealis, although we cannot guarantee that you will see them during your break. The guide takes you out into the wilderness of Iceland because the visibility of the phenomena is better if you are away from light pollution.
The Northern Lights illuminate the sky in arcs or curtains of green, blue, yellow and pink. You are most likely to see them if the weather conditions are clear. After your safari you are taken to the south coast where you will have a lobster or fish meal in a cosy restaurant.
*If for any reason the Super Jeep safari is not able to operate you will be transferred to a bus safari.
