A region steeped in myths and legends, this Nordlys Northern Lights voyage takes in the best of one of our Norwegian Cruises, the southbound voyage. Beginning in lively Tromsø, we weave through the stunning Vesterålen and Lofoten Islands before reaching medieval Trondheim at the end of the voyage. Why not add a winter rail journey on the end of your Norwegian Cruise, we can arrange for you to continue to Oslo by train.

Tromsø has been the starting point for many polar expeditions and is the ideal port to begin our own voyage to discover the Nordlys-Northern Lights. Sailing south, we keep our eyes open for the celestial colours of the Northern Lights as we navigate through inlets and channels of these cool waters. Jagged snow-clad peaks rise sharply from the sea, and soon we reach the beautiful islands of Lofoten. This chain of islands is 120km long and home to the fishing communities which have helped to make Norway famous as a sea-faring nation. Painted boathouses line the harbors and deserted beaches and fjords pass you by, on your Northern Lights,Norwegian Cruise.

Your Nordlys Northern Lights cruise comes to an end in the Viking capital of Norway, Trondheim. A tour of the city with its fine examples of medieval and impressive wooden buildings is included. The 18th century Stiftsgården Palace and the magnificent 14th century Nidaros Cathedral, considered one of the grandest Gothic buildings in northern Europe, cannot be missed.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Fly from UK to Tromsø

Fly from UK to Tromsø, meet representative and transfer to Hotel. Evening meal included before boarding your Nordlys northern lights cruise at midnight. Meals included: Dinner

Days 2 to 3 - Enjoy the voyage

Enjoy the voyage on the journey south to Trondheim. Always keeping your eye out to get a glimpse of the mysterious Northern Lights. Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4 - Arrive Trondheim early

Arrive Trondheim early morning, guided sightseeing tour included,(selected departures only) transfer to the airport for international flights. Meals included: Breakfast

Optional Excursions

Dog Sledging – Tromsø

Start your holiday with a thrilling ride by husky–dog sledge across the open plains of Tromsø. Eager huskies are harnessed to the sledge, waiting to transport you over the frozen landscape. At the end of the trip, a warming meal will be served in a Lavvo. Participants will be met at the airport on arrival and taken to the quay afterwards to begin the voyage. Not available for Tuesday departures from London Stansted. Available for the 16th December to the end of March

Polar Evening and Huskies – Tromsø

Experience Northern Norway’s unique Arctic landscape and meet Husky dogs. An experienced outdoor guide will take you on a short walk through Arctic hills overlooking fjords while the Huskies carry the ingredients for our dinner. You will prepare your food over an open campfire, hot coffee and delicious homemade chocolate cake will also be served. The walk is suitable for all fitness levels. 5 hours, pre-bookable. Available for departures from the end of October to 15 December inclusive

Theatrical city walk

Join us on this entertaining walk through Tromsø complemented by poetry by Henrik Ibsen. During the walk you visit the Northern Norwegian Arts Museum and listen to the history of this enchanting city, also known as ‘the Paris of the North’, all the while accompanied by an actress who will recite and re-enact the story of T erje Vigen, one of Ibsen’s poems. You may also enjoy tea, coffee and cakes at a local café before continuing towards the northernmost Catholic Cathedral and the final highlight, the World Theatre, the oldest and northernmost cinema in Europe which is still operating. 2 hours 30 min, pre-bookable. Only available for Saturday departures from London Stansted

DEPARTURES. The Itinerary shown here applies to selected departures from London Stansted. Saturday departures from London Stansted include dinner at a hotel in Tromso before boarding the ship. SPECIAL OCCASIONS. NEW YEAR. Travel on board the MS Nordkapp on 30 December for our New Year voyage. A New Year's dinner will be served followed by music. VALENTINE'S DAY. Depart on 12, 13 or 14 February and spend Valentine's Day in Norway. You will have the option to join a romantic dog sledge excursion.

PLEASE NOTE: The Nordlys-Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon and due weather conditions cannot be guaranteed. To Maximise your chances of seeing the Northern Lights, you can arrange for a wake up call if the are spotted by the Bridge during the night.
